Pearl the Little Mermaid and the Glowing Sea
Deep down in the warm blue sea, in a cosy cove of pink and purple coral, there lived a little mermaid named Pearl, with a shimmering tail and long flowing hair that floated softly in the water.
All day long, Pearl swam and played. She raced the silver fish through the swaying seaweed. She collected pretty shells and smooth round pebbles. She turned somersaults in the sparkling water and waved to the friendly sea turtles gliding slowly by. It was a bright and busy day beneath the waves.
But as the day drew to a close, the sea began to change. High above, the sun slipped away, and the water turned from bright blue to deep, dreamy indigo. And then — oh, how beautiful! — the sea began to glow.
All around Pearl, tiny lights blinked softly on. The little jellyfish shimmered like floating lanterns. The coral gleamed with a soft and gentle light. Even the tiny specks in the water sparkled, scattering the sea with a thousand little stars. The whole ocean glowed, soft and silver-blue, like a night full of underwater moonlight.
"It's bedtime in the sea," Pearl whispered happily. She swam down to her cosy coral bed, lined with the softest sea-moss and the smoothest velvet seaweed, and she snuggled down, curling her shimmering tail around her.
Far above, up through the water, she could just see the round moon shining down from the world above, its silver light drifting all the way to the bottom of the sea — soft and pale and kind. And all around her, the gentle sea rocked her, this way and that, with the slow and sleepy motion of the tide. In… and out. In… and out.
The glowing jellyfish drifted past like sleepy lamps. The seaweed swayed slow and dreamy. And the whole warm sea hummed a low and gentle lullaby, all around her cosy coral bed.
And the little mermaid, rocked by the sleepy tide in the soft glow of the sea, closed her eyes and drifted gently, happily, off to sleep.
