My Lullaby

Bedtime stories for 3 year olds

The best bedtime stories for three-year-olds are short, gentle and a little repetitive — easy to follow as eyes get heavy. Here's a calm one to read tonight.

My Lullaby writes a new, age-appropriate story every night, starring your child, delivered to your inbox at bedtime.

The Sleepy Little Bunny

A little bunny had hopped and played all day long.

Now the sun was going down, and the meadow was turning soft and grey.

The little bunny hopped home — hop, hop, hop — past the sleepy daisies that had closed their petals for the night.

Inside the warm burrow, Mama Bunny was waiting. "Time to rest, little one," she said.

The little bunny snuggled into the soft, cosy bed. Two long ears went floppy. Two little eyes grew heavy.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

And the little bunny drifted off to sleep, dreaming of more hops tomorrow.

The Hedgehog's Bed of Leaves

A little hedgehog was gathering leaves.

He found a red one under the apple tree. He found a gold one by the fence. He found a big brown one that was almost as wide as he was, and he had to push it all the way home with his nose.

He made a pile. He patted it flat. Then he made the pile bigger, because a good bed should be deep.

When the wood grew dark, the little hedgehog climbed in.

The leaves went crinkle, crinkle, crinkle. Then they went quiet.

He curled himself into a small round ball, with his prickles on the outside and his warm nose tucked in.

"Goodnight, leaves," said the little hedgehog.

And the leaves kept him warm all night long.

The Sleepy Little Owl

High in the old oak tree lived a little owl who did not want to go to sleep.

"But owls stay awake at night," he said.

"Little owls do not," said his mother. "Little owls sleep, and grow, and wake up bigger."

The little owl looked out at the dark. He saw the moon. He saw one star, and then two, and then more stars than he could count.

He listened. The wind moved through the leaves. Far away, a river went on and on.

His eyes felt heavy. His feathers felt soft and warm.

"Just one more star," he said quietly.

But before he could find it, the little owl was fast asleep.
